Upgrading to Log Insight 4.7 is a relatively straight forward process and is done by the application of a new pak file, downloadable from downloads.vmware.com or by leveraging vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager (version 2.0 if going this route).  In this blog I will be going from version 4.6.1 to 4.7.

Before attempting any upgrade, the Log Insight appliances should be snapshotted so that a roll-back point exists for safety.  Once the upgrade process has started it cannot be stopped or reversed!

The upgrade is driven from the “Cluster” section of the “Administration” screen, using the “Upgrade Cluster” button.

If you have not taken any recovery snapshots then now would be the time to do it.

Once you have browsed to the pak file the upgrade wizard will upload it to vRLI.

As with all software upgrades, you have to accept the licensing agreement.

At this point you can go and grab a coffee.  There’s nothing else to be done apart from wait.

Once the pak has been applied you should be presented with the following success message.  Don’t forget to remove you snapshots if everything has gone OK.
